To mark World Children’s Day 2025, MCC partnered with Manchester Met’s Institute for Children’s Futures to host the Children’s Rights Conference at HideOut Youth Zone.

My colleague Laura and I were tasked with capturing the event and getting an edited video out on social channels later that day. It was a tight squeeze but we managed it; Laura handled coordinating and performing the interviews with our participants, while I was on tech duty.

Our team had just got our hands on some DJI Osmo Pocket 3 cameras, so I took one to the event to shoot this video as a test. I only had about five minutes to fiddle with it before we started filming, so it was a bit of a baptism by fire! We were done filming by midday, and I rushed home to get it edited and signed off by 5pm.

The post wasn’t exactly a smash hit on social, but I still think it’s a really nice little video. I found the young speakers so impressive, and it was great to get to talk to them after their panel. If nothing else I’m glad to have finally visited HideOut Youth Zone, which is an amazing facility; put a few of those in every city and major town, and I think you’d fix a lot of problems.
